TRIP TO VANCOUVER

Ian Fraser came along and gave us an overview of the Sunshine Coast Summer School of Celtic Music. He told us a bit about the area and specifically about the school.

The school is held in Roberts Creek Elementary School and the whole school premises are used. There are 2 schools – the main school which mainly covers fiddle (at all levels from beginner to advance level) and also guitar, mandolin, dance and singing. The other school is the Trad Band class aimed at teenagers and covers all instruments.

Teachers are from US, Canada and Scotland covering a wide range of styles of music and tuition is mainly taught by ear with music available. There are usually some 200 students at the camp.

There are events in the evening – dances and concerts etc and usually a BBQ on the beach where a fire is lit and some tunes played.

• Trip is from Weds, 1st to Thurs 16th July 2009
• Those who have not paid £50 deposit need to do this now.
• £100 deposit per person for flights, together with a completed form is required by 28th September (cheques only, made payable to Riddell Fiddles Vancouver).
• People need to decide on their accommodation options.
